Image Brightness

The light output of a projector is only loosely connected to the image brightness due to variable lens f-stops and image size.

Use this calculator to select the projector based directly on the needed image brightness. You will need to specify the screen size, projection distance or range of possible distances, and the amount of ambient light.

To place restrictions on the results, use the filters on the left side of the screen.

Image Brightness: Fill Entire Screen

When the aspect ratio of a projector does not match that of the screen, you must choose between filling either the vertical or horizontal dimensions of the screen, or filling both by allowing either the vertical or horizontal to go past the edge of the screen.

For example, if a screen measures 7 and a half feet tall and 10 feet wide, a 16:10 projector when filling the 10-foot width of the screen will produce only a 6 and a quarter foot tall image. There will be a black band on the top and bottom of the image. If that is what you want, don't check the Fill Entire Screen checkbox.
